In his latest blog that has been posted over on TSN's website, former NHL referee Kerry Fraser responded to the concerns of the tinfoil hat wearing Senators fans who, for whatever reason, believed that a former league official would assure them that the fix was in. That in this case, two professional referees – Tim Peel and Dan O’Rourke – conspired and willingly ignored their own personal moral compass so that they could compromise the integrity of the game and ensure that Ottawa would lose?
Hmm, that sounds completely reasonable. Let’s take a closer look at what was said in the article itself. no comments

A: Anderson…
Just as I was getting to ready to use some digital ink commenting on how Craig Anderson needs to keep up his recent play for the Senators to have any sustained success, he then let Dennis Seidenberg’s shot in from center ice. I think it’s in everyone’s best interests if I move on to something else.
B: Bibi’s 50-percent
At the conclusion of this weekend’s All-Star Game, Elliotte Friedman asked Daniel Alfredsson whether he would be open to returning for one more season. The captain’s response was, "Fifty percent yes, and my wife's going to have to decide the other 50."
Just say ‘ja’ Bibi. Just say ‘ja’.
C: Cue the Naysayers
For the first time this season, the Senators have now lost four consecutive games in regulation. Cue the insufferable open-mouth breathers who will chime in and say that the Senators are finally showing their true colours.

The big news from yesterday’s practice in Boston pertained to the health of two of Ottawa’s centers. After lengthy period of time in which there were very few and relevant updates on the Peter Regin, the Senators organization revealed that the Danish center underwent a successful surgical procedure on his left shoulder that will keep him out of action for the next four to six months. Barring some miraculous postseason run, it’s likely that Regin’s ailing shoulder has ended his season for the second consecutive year.
It’s the latest in a series of disappointments that have plagued him since he broke into the league as a promising rookie during the 2009-10 campaign. While injuries and opportunity have contributed to some inconsistent and modest offensive production, Regin has always been a responsible two-way center who posted some impressive puck possession metrics throughout his career. According to the advanced statistical metrics at Behind the Net, in 2009-10, Regin’s relative Corsi of 18.9 led Senators players and he followed that up by posting an 8.4 in 2010-11. (Note: Per Behind the Net’s FAQ, Corsi measures puck possession by using a simple plus/minus-like rating of the total number of shots on goal, missed shots and blocked shots directed at the opposing net while a player is on the ice at even strength. Relative Corsi refers to the difference in Corsi between a player's on-ice performance and his team's performance when he's on the bench. The higher a player’s rating, the better.) no comments

We like you just fine Erik.
Hopefully this sparks a new Sens chant whenever Karlsson does something spectacular on the ice: how you like me clap clap clap clap clap.
One Thought on Alfie
It is not often in sport that an event can actually live up to the build up of hype that develops over the weeks and months that lead up to it. The 2012 All-Star Game may not have been the greatest game of shinny ever played but for the hockey fans in Ottawa, it was the ideal platform to celebrate Daniel Alfredsson's career as a Senator. And to that end, it exceeded every imaginable expectation.
From the Fantasy Draft on Thursday to the Alfie chants that led up to his pre-game introduction to the standing ovation that he received after scoring his first goal to his post-game interview with Elliotte Friedman that was piped into SBP's PA system, everything was surreal. Hats off to the Senators organization, the NHL, John Tortorella for putting him on a line with the ginger twins and most importantly, the fans for making it such a memorable weekend.
Alfie's Future
In Pierre Lebrun's All-Star Recap on ESPN, he included this interesting quote from Alfie that provides some insight into a prospective front office role once his playing days are over:
"I've thought about it a lot and I haven't come up with a decision," said Alfredsson, allowing us a glimpse into his plans. "I haven't discussed with Eugene or Bryan about what possibly I could do. I've been around hockey my whole life, definitely it's something that interests me, there's no question. What role? I have no idea. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I'm sure I'd love to try it. At what level and what position? I don't know. I've got four kids at home, how much time do I want to put into it? And I know if I start by saying, 'I'm just going to go in and be a consultant or whatever,' I can't do anything half-way. I know exactly how it's going to end up. I have to talk to my wife and see what she thinks. But it would be very interesting.''

Forget Bruce Springsteen's Wrecking Ball Tour. 'Round these parts, fans in Ottawa were eagerly anticipating the return of Eugene Melnyk to sports talk radio. Considering the unexpected success of the Ottawa Senators, The Euge was conspicuously silenct throughout the first half of the season.
Well, no more.
For the third time in a less than two weeks, The Euge has taken to the airwaves - making an appearance on the Team 1200's Sports Call. Below is a summary of the interesting nuggets of information that he said. As always, my thoughts are in bold. no comments
