If you're not a hockey fan, you will have probably never heard of Paul Bissonette. If you're a hockey fan, you will know who Paul Bissonette because of his twitter account, @biznasty2point0. If you're not a hardcore baseball fan, you've probably never heard of Logan Morrison, the first baseman for the Florida Marlins. I've never heard of him before until this year, but he's managed to make himself famous with his hilarious tweets, which you can find @LoMoMarlins. Although that's where the comparison ends seeing as LoMo is a regular player for the Marlins. Check out this brilliant tweet (via Getting Blanked)

LoMo Twitter

Hilarious. And he even mocked himself a bit too, by putting a censored sign over his mouth, as this tweet was deemed "Controversial" by many.

Okay, so over the last week or so, there's been a ton of bitching about the CBA. First it was Christian Erhoff, and then it was Brad Richards signing contracts that were clearly "illegal" contracts. While they're basically circumventing the cap, they're completely legal. After seeing those, many people started to complain about the CBA. I myself was kind of pissed off, as the NHL didn't claim they were illegal according to the SPIRIT of the CBA, but they were approved because they were legal even though they were bad in intention (yes, i'm still pissed off that one guy gets punished for violating the spirit of something yet breaking rules and regulations are completely okay). Of course, there are many ways to stop all these contracts. However, there's one aspect of the CBA that allows some of these contracts- the 50% rule, better known as article 50.7. I'll give a suggestion to change that rule, which will deter teams from making these sorts of long term contracts.

Okay, so over the weekend new Red Wings defenseman Mike Commodore tweeted about choosing the #64 as his jersey number (so his jersey number will read "Commodore 64"). Immediately, Greg Wyshynski decided that it should happen, and would pledge money towards the charity of Mike Commodore's choice. Red Wings blog Nightmare on Helm Street had no problem with the idea whatsoever, and I'd assume there are some fans who agree with them. On the other hand, the infamous Abel To Yzerman does not feel the same way about "Commodore 64", seeing it as Commodore being a clown and how it's more or less "disgraceful" to the Red Wings. I can understand that, but you can't have a team which cannot be laughed at in any way or form. Brad Marchand dominated the Canucks in the finals and is a stanley cup champion in his first year, yet people mock his lewd behaviour afterwards. At least be happy your player's "disgraceful" actions consist of making jokes at his expense rather than urinating in public and being "above the law".

Tyler Biggs drafted

Looking back at the draft, there were a few surprizes. The biggest would've been the Jets selecting Mark Schiefele with the 7th overall pick. One surrpise for me would be the Wild taking Jonas Brodin at 10th overall. One decision that was criticized alot was the Leafs trading up to select the massive forward Tyler Biggs. While he didn't put up the numbers like Boone Jenner, Phillip Danault or Zack Phillips, who were all taken after him, a lot of people thought Burke was taking a guy who was probably going to be a 3rd liner at best. I didn't expect Biggs to go in the first round in my mock draft, which was kind of a surprise for me. Of course, while many feel Biggs might not have been the best player available, Biggs might not be that bad a pick for the Leafs.

First, it was Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun trashing Burke for his decision to got to Kandahar, now Steve Buffery decides to jump on everyone who sadid Simmons was a moron. And what was the basis of his argument? That Simmons was right about Burke taking free agency off to go and support the troops was a bad idea. Why? Because the Leafs wouldn't overpay for Brad Richards, who would've made the Leafs a much better team according to Simmons. While Burke didn't go to Newport sports to go and woo Brad Richards, Burke went to Kandahar with RFA defenseman Luke Schenn- an important part of the Leafs going forward. Burke was also able to improve the team by adding Cody Franson (thus making overpaid shutdown Mike Komisarek AHL bound/ obsolete, and removing Brett Lebda), re-signing RFA forwards Clarke MacArthur (2 years, $3.25 M) and Tyler Bozak (2 years $3 M), and adding centers Tim Connolly and Matt Lombardi. That and Burke didn't overpay for any UFAs. So if you're wondering, yes, Steve Buffery defending Simmons' words is a very stupid act.

Burkie Pride

Brian Burke's been a busy man the last few days- he spent all of Canada day with the troops in Afghanistan (and got criticized for it by some dumbass), came back to Toronto and spent Sunday at the gay pride parade remembering Brendan Burke. While he was busy doing those things, the Leafs were able to make some big additions and subtractions. The Leafs lost out on Brad Richards, but landed Tim Connolly for two years, which should give Joe Colborne more time to mature. Additionally, they moved Brett Lebda (yes, Brett Lebda) and some ECHLer for the concussed Matt Lombardi and Cody Franson. Considering today's independence day (side note: Happy independence day to my american readers), Burke could be spending his time with his family. The funny part about all of this- while Burke's been doing other stuff, other teams have been handing out some big money contracts they will regret. With Tim Connolly, the Leafs get a more manageable term, as opposed to Richards' 9 years he got from New York. Burke being a good person basically helped the Leafs avoid a ton of bad contracts. And speaking of bad contracts, Burke's gotta move heaven and earth to get rid of Mike Komisarek.
