Welcome to a brand new feature here on GuysGirl: Hot Topics; a weekly recap of the best and brightest stories from the gaming world over the past seven days. I'll highlight some of the top news items and reviews from the week.
PS3
It was a relatively quiet week for the Playstation 3, but for you PS3 aficionados out there, Final Fantasy XIII-2 (so is that Final Fantasy 14 or 26?) received an 8 out of 10 with a rating of "Great" from IGN. The game hits shelves in the US this Tuesday, January 31.
In sadder news, Insomniac Games has announced that it will no longer be working on the Resistance franchise. While the franchise is likely not done, Insomniac will no longer be the studio behind it, much like Bungie with Halo. Insomniac Chief Executive Officer Ted Price said, "Well, we believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell."

We have our normal football squares experts who know exactly what the sheet below is used for and we also have those fans that have noticed a grid that is proudly displayed during football parties but have no clue what its for.
Whatever your familiarity is, you can use our easy to print football squares sheet for your party for the big game or office pool.
1. Determine a dollar amount per square and the payout per quarter to be awarded. For example for the sheet below, there are 100 squares. If you charge $25 per square, that means $625 will be awarded to the winner after EACH QUARTER.
2. Have everyone write their name in a square (multiple times is ok).
3. Once all the squares are filled up, make up little pieces of paper that have each number listed 0-9 and the team names.Put the numbers in a hat and get ready to start drawing.
4. Draw the names first to determine what team name to place vertically on the grid and which team is horizontal.
5. Draw the numbers one by one place writing each number drawn over each horizontal column and draw again for the vertical rows side. (there should only be one number, including the zeros, that correspond with the horizontal columns and vertical rows, think x/y axis from math class)
6. Now everyone has a special number that is used to determine the winner after each quarter. This number must be the last number in the score to win. For example at the end of the first quarter, the game is 14-7. The person who has number 4 (for that corresponding team) and the person who has 7 (for that corresponding team) are the winners for that quarter.

no commentsAfter which team will emerge victorious, no topic is rife for more speculation than which player you will see shouting “I’m going to Disneyworld!” right after the final gun.
Who will take home the season’s final prize?
Here’s my list of the players in the running, in order of likelihood.

Fox’s Alcatraz was one of the more anticipated midseason shows, and for my money, it was well worth the wait. A smooth mix of prison drama, police procedural, X Files-ish sci-fi mystery and character driven office-politics drama, Alcatraz blends its many elements expertly into a show with a foreboding atmosphere, intelligent plots, sharply drawn characters and a long-story mystery that piques your curiosity.

The first Super Bowl rings were given to the winners of the first Super Bowl in 1967, the Green Bay Packers and ever since then, teams have tried to make their ring, the most special.
Many believe that only the team and coaches are given a ring but in truth, both the winning and losing team are allotted 150 Super Bowl rings to be distributed (but not limited to) active and injured players , coaches, trainers, executives, personnel, and general staff. But should a team require extra rings, the team itself has to fork over the bill.
Companies like Jostens, Balfour and Tiffany's bid on the right to make the championship rings but ultimately the choice is left to the team itself. It takes about a month for the team to hammer out the design of the ring before it goes into production.
The rings are usually made of yellow or white gold with diamonds in the shape of their logo, a football or the Lombardi Trophy. Most teams also personalize the ring with the player's name and uniform number but the ring always has the team name, year and Super Bowl logo.
Each ring for the Super Bowl winner is valued at around $5,000 but according to league rules, the losing team cannot spend more than half of what the winners spend.
But not everyone sees a Super Bowl ring has something they cannot part with. Whether through unfortunate life circumstances or charity reasons, many players have decided to sell their symbol of ultimate victory.
From Wikipedia:
"Dave Meggett is known to have placed his ring for sale on eBay. Two Super Bowl rings from the 1970 Steelers sold on eBay for over $32,000 apiece in mid-2008. Patriots safety Je'Rod Cherry raffled his ring from Super Bowl XXXVI in November 2008 to benefit several charities working to help children in Africa and Asia. Tight end Shannon Sharpe, meanwhile, gave his first Super Bowl ring to his brother Sterling, who had his career cut short by injury."
